Original email from the community member– How can vendors add tracking info to their shipped section of an order? How is this shared with the buyer? Also, once an item is marked as shipped by a vendor, can that notify the shop owner to mark order as complete?
Thanks a lot for your queries Adam. I thought to answer them all here so that other community members with the same query can also contribute their ideas. So here are my thoughts:
1. How can vendors add tracking info to their shipped section of an order? ? How is this shared with the buyer?
>> In the current version of WCMp, vendors cannot add the shipment tracking info. The reason being that the plugin is still in it’s early days and our focus is to firstly get the basics right. WooCommerce by default doesn’t provides any option to the site admin to add tracking information for an order. This needs an extension, the one which I like the most is https://www.woothemes.com/products/shipment-tracking/. In near future we would add support for this plugin so that vendors can add the shipment tracking info.
As far as I understand this plugin adds this tracking info to the order( accessible from the My Account section for customers) as well as the emails.
2. Once an item is marked as shipped by a vendor, can that notify the shop owner to mark order as complete?
>> Currently when a vendor marks an order to be complete from his/her end, a note is added in the order. This note is visible to the admin in the individual order page( backend). If the order involves products from multiple vendors, once all vendors have marked it complete, admin manually marks the order completed from back-end. We are planning to revise this entire module to enahnce the usablity but that would take some good amount of time. Plan is to create child orders for each vendor whose products are involved in an order. So unlike now, they can mark it complete, cancelled, etc( WooCommerce status). Each change would trigger an email to admin and the buyer. Once all vendors have taken a stand, the order should be automatically marked complete.
Apology for delayed response Madhumita. Do you want to know, how the customers will track their order? If yes, then firstly, understand that the tracking URL and ID will be provided to the vendor from the shipping company. As a customer, all you have to do is to click on the tracking URL and then enter the ID.
