Setting up – Coupons for WCMp

WCMp version 3.0 lets vendors add coupons from their dashboard itself. In this article, we shall cover the capabilities that the admin can bestow upon the vendor regarding coupons as well as how the vendor can add/ edit coupons.

Vendor Capabilities for Uploading Coupons:

WCMp provides three different vendor capabilities for uploading products.

  • A vendor can neither submit coupons nor publish them, as only admin would reserve the right to do so.
  • A vendor can submit coupons but only the Admin can publish the coupons added by the vendor.
  • Vendors can directly submit and publish their coupons.

Let us now dive into details about each of the capabilities mentioned above.

Disallowing Vendors from Adding/Publishing Coupons

Use this setting in cases where you want to have the strictest control over the coupon upload process. In this case a vendor will neither be able to add a coupon on his/her own nor publish it but his/her products may be discounted using coupons added by the admin.

From the Admin Dashboard go to WCMp Settings, click on the Capabilities tab and uncheck the boxes for “Submit Coupons” and “Publish Coupons”

Allow Vendors to Add Coupons but Disallow Publishing

Use this setting when you want to review all the coupons uploaded by vendors. This is the suggested setting as this ensures the admin to have a strict vigil on what coupons the vendor add. After the review process is complete, the admin can then publish the respective coupon.

From the Admin Dashboard navigate to WCMp Settings,  click on the Capabilities tab and then check the box for “Submit Coupons”.

Allow Vendors to Add and Publish Coupons

Use this setting when you have gained trust from all your vendors. In this case, the vendor enjoys the freedom to publish the added coupons, they need not wait for the admin’s consent for doing the same.

From the Admin Dashboard navigate to WCMp Settings,  click on the Capabilities tab and then check the box for “Submit Products” and “Publish products”.

Allow Vendors to Edit Published Coupons

With this setting, admin gets the upper hand to decide whether or not to allow vendors to edit coupons that have already been published and are on the site for use.

To let your vendors edit published coupons check the box for “Edit Published Coupons” under the Capabilties tab in WCMp Settings.

Note: These permissions can also be set from the WCMp Admin Setup Wizard under Capabilties

Add coupons ( By the Vendor )

From the Vendor Dashboard, click on Add Coupon under Coupons.
Follow these simple steps to add your first coupon on the website!

  1. Enter the coupon’s title, description, discount type is already set to fixed product discount ( vendors do not have sufficient permissions to set discount type to other types ), coupon amount and coupon expiry date in the respective fields under the “General” Tab.
    • Coupon Title — It is basically the Coupon Code that is to be used by the customer to apply the coupon. It must be unique as it’s used as an identifier.
    • Description — Completely for internal use and is optional. Normally contains info about coupon, e.g., Dates in effect, promotion, compensation, ticket number.
    • Fixed product discount – A fixed total discount for selected products only. Customer receives a set amount of discount per item. For example, three (3) ink-cartidges @ $100 each with a coupon for $10 off applies a discount of $30, therefore the customer pays 270$ in place of 300$.
    • Coupon amount – Set a Fixed value. Entered without a currency unit, as it is added automatically, e.g., Enter ’10’ for 10$.
    • Coupon expiry date – Date the coupon should expire and can no longer be used. Expiry happens at 12:00 am or 00:00 on the date chosen. If you want a coupon to be valid through Christmas Day but invalid the moment Christmas is over, set the expiration date to YYYY-12-26 as it will expire on YYYY-12-26 00:00. It uses the site’s time zone setting at Settings > General > Timezone in WordPress ( timezone is to be set by the admin ).
  2. You can add usage restrictions to your coupon from the respective tab.
    • Minimum spend – Set the minimum subtotal needed to use the coupon.

The sum of the cart subtotal + tax is used to determine the minimum amount.

    • Maximum spend – Set the maximum subtotal when using the coupon.
    • Individual use only – Check the box if you don’t want this coupon to be used with other coupons.
    • Exclude sale items – Check the box if you don’t want this coupon to apply to products on sale.
    • Products – Products that the coupon code will be applied to.
    • Exclude products – Products that the coupon code will not be applied to.
    • Product categories – Product categories that the coupon code will be applied to.
    • Exclude categories – Product categories that the coupon code will not be applied to.
    • Email restrictions – Email address or addresses that can use a coupon. Verified against customer’s billing email.
  3. You can add usage limits to your coupon from the respective tab.
    • Usage limit per coupon – Number of times a coupon can be used by all customers before being invalid.
    • Limit usage to X items – Number of items the coupon can be applied to before being invalid.
    • Usage limit per user – Number of times a coupon can be used by each customer before being invalid for that customer.
  4. Lastly, click on Submit for review / publish ( as is the case ) or on Draft, if you have further editing to be done at a later period.
